There is a unique hope reserved for the delivery app map – be it a takeaway order or your latest impulse purchase from the largest online retailer. The little van is four stops away. Somehow it is then six stops away, followed by a detour down a road you have never heard of and you find yourself at the front window with a cup of tea, glaring at a cartoon vehicle as your new nemesis. The app maintains throughout that your delivery is nearby.
Season two of Now What? Well it is nearby.
Back in July, at the end of episode forty, I said it would be along in a couple of weeks. I said this with the confidence of a man who has never once been right about a timescale, and here we are. There is no start date. I could invent one, but I would only spend the autumn apologising for it.
Here is what I can tell you. Season one finished because the story it was following finished. I started the show to work my way through redundancy out loud, and episode forty ended with me having a job. Forty episodes of one bloke (and guests) describing the inside of the experience is a generous helping, and the natural next move is to pass the microphone along.
My intent for season two is it will land every fortnight and will have a slightly different shape to the first. There will be more voices than mine, including people who are in the thick of this right now and can describe it as it happens, and specialists who know things I don’t, which covers a surprising amount of ground. The show keeps its name and its attitude towards the whole business.
The exact shape is still partly on the whiteboard, and I would like to finish drawing it before I announce it. When it firms up, this is where you’ll find out.
So this hastily written blog post is me saying, season two is nearby. I’ll let you know when the van turns into the road.
